On July 6, 2024, Mayor Cheng Wen-tsang of Taoyuan was detained and restricted from leaving Taiwan on suspicion of involvement in a land corruption case during his term in office. The court set his bail at 5 million and imposed restrictions. In response, Mayor Terry Gou mentioned that the city government had recently cooperated with the investigation. The case involves a land planning project where a landowner allegedly bribed Cheng through an intermediary. Gou expressed hopes for a fair resolution, indicating unusual instructions given by Cheng during the planning process. The case is now public, and further details are being investigated. Gou also noted that the project is pending approval by the Ministry of the Interior Urban Planning Committee.
