Premier Su Tseng-chang responded to the requests from the office of former President Ma Ying-jeou regarding the '1992 Consensus' amid tensions with China over continuous aggressive actions towards Taiwan such as military maneuvers and punitive measures. Su emphasized that simply acknowledging any condition demanded by the other party won't resolve the threat. He urged calmness among family members of the detained fishermen and advised fishermen to remain vigilant to avoid any potential violations. Su also called on China to refrain from escalating tensions and ensure the safe return of the fishing boat. Regarding Ma's suggestion for the government to acknowledge the '1992 Consensus,' Su reiterated that Taiwan is a sovereign and independent nation and emphasized the need to maintain the status quo. Su criticized the attempts to politicize administrative issues and stressed the importance of unity among the people to defend against external threats.
