On July 6, 2024, in the early hours, Cheng Wen Tsan, Chairman of the SEF and former Mayor of Taoyuan City, was suspected of being involved in a corruption case related to land development. After overnight interrogation, prosecutors requested detention without contact which was later granted with a bail of 5 million, restrictions on residence, travel, and communication with other defendants, suspects, or witnesses in the case. President Lai Ching-te responded by emphasizing the need to investigate any illegal activities without bias or tolerance, regardless of party affiliation, to combat fraud, eradicate organized crime, and fight against corruption as critical government tasks to maintain national survival, social stability, and meet people's expectations.
