Taiwan President Responds to China's Punishment Rules with Death Penalty: China Has No Authority to Sanction Taiwanese People

Reported 8 months ago

Last week, China's Taiwan Affairs Office issued new regulations on punishing Taiwan independence advocates, with the most severe penalty being the death penalty. President Lai Ching-te responded by expressing condolences to the flood victims in southern China and reaffirming Taiwan's sovereignty and democratic freedom, stating that China has no power to sanction the Taiwanese people. At the same time, Chinese military aircraft have increased their activities around Taiwan, prompting military experts to warn against potential island takeover drills. President Lai urged China to acknowledge the existence of the Republic of China and engage in dialogue with Taiwan's democratically elected government for the benefit of both sides.
