Taiwan Rail Accident: Surveillance Footage Shows Landslide Before High-Speed Train Derailment

Reported about 1 year ago

Newly released surveillance footage captured just 19 minutes before the derailment of the TRA 229 express train on June 21, 2024, showed that the railroad tracks had already been submerged by a landslide. The footage revealed that the tracks were covered by mud and rocks as early as 19 minutes before the accident occurred. Questions have been raised regarding the lack of timely response and notification despite the presence of monitoring equipment, with concerns over safety measures and preparedness by the railway company.
