Taiwan Railway Employee Approaching Retirement Age Shortly After Joining: Assigned to Hualien in Accordance with Regulations

Reported about 1 year ago

A new employee at Taiwan Railways, who recently reached the retirement age, has been assigned to Hualien Electric Service Section. Despite the surprise, Taiwan Railways states that the situation complies with regulations as the employee, with a master's degree in electrical engineering, met all requirements and passed exams based on employment laws prohibiting discrimination based on age. The employee will undergo a 3-month probation period and due to nearing retirement, will be assigned to office work. Taiwan Railways initially recruited 936 employees, but only 756 were hired, showing shortages in technical roles, especially in the eastern part of the country. Plans are underway for the second round of recruitment to address manpower issues.
