In response to the collision with falling rocks by Taiwan Railway Express train 229 at the entrance of the Qingshui Tunnel in Hualien, Taiwan's Premier Su Tseng-chang instructed the Minister of Transportation, Lin Meng-yen, to visit the Taiwan Railways Operations Control Center for updates. The Minister of Health and Welfare, Chen Shih-kai, was directed to immediately activate the emergency medical care team and dispatch the Hualien Hospital team to assist in rescue efforts at the scene. Premier Su also coordinated efforts to ensure passenger transportation and commanded operations on-site in Hualien to swiftly restore train services.
