On June 21, 2024, at 9:05 AM, a Taiwan Railways accident occurred when Taroko Express train 229 (3000 series) was hit by falling rocks at K51 inside the Qingshui Tunnel on the west track between Chongde and Horen. The railway spokesperson, Liu Shuanghuo, explained that a landslide occurred at the southern entrance of the tunnel, causing the driver to be unable to brake in time, resulting in the train stopping. Currently, the driver has a fractured hand, and 6 passengers sustained minor injuries. Repair crews have been dispatched to the scene. The incident was attributed to a natural disaster, prioritizing emergency response over investigation.
