The Taiwan Railway train No. 229, a new Taroko Express train, collided with falling rocks in the Qingshui Tunnel in Hualien on the evening of June 21, causing its carriage to derail. The train conductor surnamed Chen and 8 passengers were injured, with 7 of the injured individuals taken to Tzu Chi and Mackay Memorial Hospitals for treatment, while 2 others did not require medical assistance. The injured include the train driver surnamed Chen, as well as passengers surnamed Huang, Lai, Yang, and Ding sent to Tzu Chi Hospital, and passengers surnamed Tsai and Li sent to Mackay Memorial Hospital, while those unnamed passengers did not seek medical care. Emergency services were dispatched to assist in the rescue operation, urging people in the area to stay safe and watch out for further incidents.
