In a recent development, 336 Taiwan Railway employees were penalized for not working during Lunar New Year as they had not consented to work on the holiday beforehand. The Taiwan Railway Company deemed their absence as unauthorized and inappropriate, leading to disciplinary action. The industrial union filed a lawsuit against the Ministry of Labor for unfair labor practices, and after winning partially in the lower court and having the decision overturned by the Supreme Administrative Court, they finally secured a victory in the Taipei High Administrative Court. The court ruled that the company's actions did not align with labor laws and that the employees' rights should be upheld. The Ministry of Labor is now required to reconsider its decision based on the court's ruling.
