A Taiwan Railways Express train derailed on June 21 in Hualien due to a landslide at Clearwater Tunnel, causing injuries to the driver and passengers. It was revealed that the landslide was captured on surveillance camera 19 minutes before the incident, but no timely report was made. Taiwan Railways responded by stating the surveillance camera is only an auxiliary device and not for monitoring landslides, but they will install additional cameras for manual monitoring and water level sensors for prevention. There are concerns raised about management issues within Taiwan Railways regarding this incident.
