The husband and wife of Taiwan's representative in the US, Yu Da-家, were exposed for a scandal involving personal gain, with his wife even treating embassy colleagues as servants. Yu Da-家 was appointed to the post last December but has since been embroiled in various controversies, including extravagant spending on luxury items, such as a $96,000 handcrafted sofa, $250,000 worth of beds, and a $370,000 Cadillac for the residence. Allegations also include inappropriate expense claims, including shopping under the name of the vice president-elect for private use. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded by stating that all purchases were made following procedures and regulations, promising to listen to public feedback and continue to improve practices.
