Taiwan's Credit Card Spending Reaches 4.18 Trillion NT Dollars Last Year, with Top 1% 'Elite Spenders' Contributing Over One-fifth

According to big data analysis of credit card usage, the top 1% of spenders in Taiwan spent an average of 1.44 million NT dollars per year. In 2023, total private consumption exceeded 11 trillion NT dollars, with credit card spending hitting 4.18 trillion NT dollars, both reaching historic highs. The top 1% of credit card spenders contributed 21.5% of all card transactions, averaging over 1.44 million NT dollars per card annually, making them 28 times more than the average consumer group. They are known as 'elite spenders' and tend to prioritize spending on travel and automotive-related expenses, with a significantly higher average spending on automotive industries compared to the general population. The majority of elite spenders are concentrated in the six major cities, particularly Taipei and New Taipei City, with a significant presence also in Hsinchu County and City, demonstrating their strong purchasing power and economic impact on local regions.
