The Ministry of National Defense in Taiwan reported on June 27 that within a span of 24 hours from 6 a.m. on the 26th to 6 a.m. on the 27th, 35 sightings of People's Liberation Army aircraft and 7 sightings of PLA warships were detected in the vicinity of the Taiwan Strait, including some as close as 30 nautical miles to Taipei and 43 nautical miles to Tamsui, prompting high vigilance from Taiwan's missile forces. The former Navy Captain Lu Li-shih revealed on a news program that the reason for the defense department's cautious approach is the imminent crossing of the Bus Strait by mainland China's 'Shandong' aircraft carrier. The situation has escalated tensions, with the possibility of joint military exercises in July and the unexpected presence of a US MC-130J transport aircraft near the Strait to monitor the 'Shandong' carrier's movements.
