According to the Nuclear Safety Commission (CNRA), Taiwan's Third Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 will begin coastdown operation in mid-June, gradually decreasing power until it shuts down on the permit expiration date of July 27. This operation is necessary as the fuel layout design from the previous major maintenance of the reactor can only sustain full load operation until mid-June. The CNRA has approved the power reduction plan submitted by Taiwan Power Company in January and will continue monitoring the plant's operation safety during this period.
