Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (2330) is set to establish a plant in Dresden, Germany, in the fourth quarter of 2024, aiming for production in 2027. Despite similarities to other plants in Japan and the United States, most TSMC engineers prefer Japan for assignments due to its proximity to Taiwan. TSMC's investment in Germany and its ability to offer double the industry standard salary have alleviated workforce shortages, but Taiwanese engineers still end up handling overtime tasks, as foreign engineers in Japan, Germany, and the US typically do not work overtime.
