Taiwan's stock market has been performing well this year with both prices and trading volume on the rise. The weighted index surged 3.33% last week, marking a total increase of 29.69% for the year. Daily average trading volume also reached a record high of 426.2 billion NT dollars. The total market value of listed stocks rose by 2.39 trillion NT dollars in a single week. Various sector indices experienced gains and losses, with the electronics sector showing the largest increase at 5.71%, led by Hon Hai's over 7% surge. Meanwhile, the electrical cables sector saw the biggest decline at 2.65%, mainly due to a 3.6% drop in Hwa Xia. Overall, the stock market turnover rate for the first half of 2024 has been high, indicating a possibility of exceeding 100% turnover rate for the full year if the current level of active trading continues in the second half of the year.
