The random knife attack at the Zhongjie subway station on May 21st has been concluded with the suspect, a 20-year-old surnamed Hong, being indicted for attempted murder, assault, public intimidation, and threatening harm. The investigation by the Taichung District Prosecutor's Office revealed that Hong, driven by dissatisfaction with society and seeking attention, meticulously planned the attack intending to gain national recognition. Hong purchased three knives a week before the incident, traveled to Taichung from Tainan, and carried out the attack on the 10th anniversary of a previous murder case to draw more attention to his actions and the abolition of the death penalty. Despite a history of mental health issues, Hong was determined to be mentally sound during the crime. The prosecution requested severe punishment for the charges brought against him.
