Taiwanese Defense Minister Criticizes Former President for Inciting Conflict, Emphasizes Mainland China as Troublemaker

Reported 8 months ago

Taiwan's Defense Minister, Gao Lizhong, responded to comments from the office of former President Ma Ying-jeou about inciting conflict, stating that Taiwan seeks peace and it is Mainland China that causes regional trouble. President Tsai Ing-wen's recent remarks rejecting a 'surrender at the first battle' mentality were interpreted as provocative towards Ma Ying-jeou, sparking a back-and-forth exchange. Gao emphasized the importance of strengthening defense capabilities and resolve against enemies, highlighting that Taiwan's strategy focuses on deterrence and defense rather than seeking war. Additionally, he criticized Mainland China as the real troublemaker in the region. Gao also explained Taiwan's military strategy of asymmetric warfare aimed at weakening the opponent's capabilities until their attempts fail.
