On July 7, 2024, Taiwanese Fishermen's Association Director Lin Shijie was shot at his residence in Tainan by a gunman who fatally wounded him within 8 seconds, with surveillance footage capturing the swift and deadly attack. Lin Shijie, the father of Tainan City Councilor Lin Yiting, succumbed to his injuries at the age of 53. The police are investigating the incident, suspecting premeditation and seeking accomplices of the assailant.
