Taiwanese Fishing Boat Released Early After being Detained by Japanese Official Vessel; Ministry of Foreign Affairs Confirms: Secured Release Ahead of Schedule through Active Coordination by Office

On July 5, 2024, the Taiwanese fishing boat Fuyang 266 was detained and its captain taken for investigation by a Japanese official vessel off the northeast coast of Pengjia Islet. After active negotiations and providing guarantees through Taiwan's office in Japan, the boat was released early in the evening. The boat, with 8 crew members including 2 Taiwanese and 6 Indonesians, was detained for fishing near Japan's Amami-Oshima Island and was released after payment of a bail of 6.06 million Japanese Yen. All crew members are safe and the boat is returning to Taiwan.
