The Taiwanese fishing vessel 'Fuyang No. 266' was intercepted by a Japanese patrol boat in waters near Amami Oshima, Japan, for suspected violation of local fishing regulations. The captain and two Taiwanese crew members were taken for investigation. The Japanese authorities agreed to release the vessel and crew upon payment of a fine of 6.6 million yen (about NT$1.213 million). The Taiwanese government, through diplomatic channels, expressed concern to Japan and requested swift release, promising continued support and assistance for the Taiwanese fishing vessel as needed.
