Taiwanese man's motive for random stabbing on metro revealed, aimed to gain national attention

Reported 11 months ago

A young man surnamed Hong from Pingtung, Taiwan, carried out a planned knife attack on a Taichung metro train, injuring two individuals, as he felt discontent with society due to family and educational reasons. The investigation revealed that he intended to draw attention to himself by harming people and chose the date based on the anniversary of a previous high-profile murder case in Taipei. Hong, a 20-year-old former nursing student, was indicted on charges of attempted murder, causing harm, and public intimidation. The prosecutors concluded that he was mentally sound and proceeded to prosecute him instead of seeking temporary placement.
