Taiwan Television News Network reported on July 5, 2024, that the Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Zheng Wen-Can, was taken into custody by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors' Office for his alleged involvement in a land development case and corruption charges. Following an overnight interrogation, he was swiftly detained and denied visitation rights. Zheng denied any wrongdoing through his lawyer, expressing cooperation with the judicial investigation to transparently prove his innocence. Taoyuan prosecutors emphasized the suspicion of bribery in his official capacity and requested his detention, with a court hearing scheduled for the afternoon to further clarify the situation.
