During the presidential election, outspoken commentator Chiou Yi accused Chao Shao-kang of illegally acquiring Central Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) for 100 million NT dollars, claiming it was a 'bargain sale' of Kuomintang's party assets. Chao filed a lawsuit against Chiou for intended election disruption and defamation. After Taipei District Prosecutors' Office decided not to prosecute Chiou, Chao appealed, but the High Prosecutors' Office rejected the case due to thorough investigation. Chiou defended his claims with evidence from prior cases and public data. Prosecutors found no malicious intent in Chiou's comments and decided not to prosecute him further.
