Former Mayor of Taoyuan and Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Cheng Wen-tsan, was taken in by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office on July 5 over corruption allegations, undergoing overnight questioning before being detained and denied visitation at dawn. A court hearing is scheduled for around 11 a.m., causing a stir in various sectors. Cheng Wen-tsan, through his lawyer, stated that he has not committed any wrongdoing and will fully cooperate with the judicial investigation to quickly clarify the truth and prove his innocence.
