Taiwanese Private Temple Angers Devotees by Arranging Marriage and Changing Goddess' Surname, Temple Demanded to Apologize

Reported about 1 year ago

A private altar in Tainan, Taiwan, called Yuzhi Wuxuan Altar unexpectedly announced that on June 9th, General Guan Yu would marry the Heavenly Queen from Lukang Tian Hou Temple, even creating a large joyous poster and changing the Goddess Mazu's surname to match her 'husband's', causing outrage among devotees who flooded the altar's Facebook page with complaints until it was temporarily shut down. Lukang Tian Hou Temple issued a statement demanding an apology, clarifying they had no knowledge beforehand and had not authorized the event, threatening legal action against the Yuzhi Wuxuan Altar for damaging their reputation and misusing their name without permission. Devotees expressed support for the temple's firm stance and praised their decision to take legal action to defend the Goddess' honor.
