Taiwanese Coast Guard Ship Appears in Hawaii for 2024 RIMPAC Military Exercise

Reported 7 months ago

As the world's largest maritime exercise, the 2024 Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) is set to take place in late June around Hawaii with 29 countries participating, including over 25,000 personnel and a larger fleet than in 2022. Despite the U.S. not inviting Taiwan's military, the Taiwanese Coast Guard's 4000-ton cutter 'Hsinchu' was recently seen docked in Honolulu for resupply, causing speculation. The Coast Guard clarified that the ship was on a routine fisheries patrol mission in the Western Pacific, with the resupply in Hawaii being a common practice to ensure safe navigation for Taiwanese vessels and fulfill international responsibilities.
