On June 18, 2024, at 12:00 pm, Tzu Chi TV shared a report highlighting the convenience of eating out in Taiwan, where people often use disposable plastic utensils, leading to higher phthalate concentrations in their bodies. Research from Taipei Medical University revealed that Taiwanese have DEHP phthalate concentrations 2 to 7 times higher than many advanced countries, posing health risks including endocrine disruption, impacting youth development, and cancer risks. Experts attribute this to the prevalent consumption of microwavable food and plastic utensils contributing to phthalate accumulation, advising the use of non-disposable glass, stainless steel, and ceramic utensils for better health.
