Tennis player Hsieh Hao-ching, ranked 28th in the world in doubles, teamed up with Russian player Veronika Kudermetova to secure a straight-set victory in the first round of the grass court tournament in Berlin, Germany. Hsieh and Kudermetova defeated their opponents from Mexico and Russia in just 1 hour and 6 minutes, making their way to the quarterfinals. This win marks Hsieh's first grass court victory of the season after a previous early exit in Nottingham. On the other hand, Taiwanese player Wu Fang-hsien and her Japanese partner were defeated in a tough three-set battle by the top-seeded American pair.
