During the Qing Dynasty, becoming an executioner ensured a secure livelihood. The last executioner of the Qing Dynasty, Deng Haishan, violated the rules and continued working beyond the recommended limit of executing 99 people, ultimately beheading over 300 individuals. Despite accumulating wealth, Deng faced a lonely and destitute life after retirement, leading to squandering his savings and ending his days in poverty.
