Huang Shangfeng was rumored to have been released early from prison in China thanks to about 30 million RMB spent by Taiwan relatives. During his escape, Huang's involvement in gun violence led to a shortage of drugs in central and southern Taiwan, causing prices to double until he bought off border security, public security, and armed police in China to continue smuggling drugs into Taiwan, stabilizing the drug prices. Huang also collaborated with another fugitive nicknamed 'Pangolin' on various criminal activities. After being extradited back to Taiwan under the judicial assistance agreement between Taiwan and China, Huang became the first wanted criminal to be returned under the agreement. After nearly nine years in Chinese prisons, Huang seemed resigned upon his return to Taiwan, expressing, 'It's good to be back; I will face it sooner or later.' Eventually, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for his crimes.
