The Tradition and Beliefs of the Double Six Festival on the Lunar Calendar

Reported 12 months ago

On the 6th day of the sixth month in the lunar calendar, which falls on July 11th this year, the Double Six Festival is celebrated in Taoism. This day is believed to be when the ancient emperors displayed their dragon robes, and the Jade Emperor opened the gates of heaven to bestow blessings and replenish the treasury. According to folk beliefs, engaging in activities related to improving wealth on this day can bring positive effects. Despite its origins being related to political actions of Song Dynasty, the festival continues to be celebrated with rituals such as airing out clothes for disinfection and bathing animals for their health. Not to be confused with the Amnesty Day, the Double Six Festival is considered a fortunate day for replenishing wealth bestowed by the heavens.
