During the second round of the U.S. Open, Thomas Detry surged into the lead with a great putting performance, while Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau stayed in contention. McIlroy, aiming for his fifth major victory, ended the day two shots behind, with Cantlay as the co-leader. Despite Detry briefly taking the solo lead, Cantlay reclaimed it. Scottie Scheffler faced the risk of missing the cut after a tough day. Bryson DeChambeau finished strong to stay close to the top, and Tiger Woods started off with work to do to secure a weekend spot.
