Recently, the entrance of the Flushing-Main Street subway station in New York was occupied by 'thousands' of bees, covering the railings and even starting to build nests, causing locals to flee in panic. The phenomenon was explained by experts as a result of overcrowding or the hot weather during mating season, leading to a 'swarm' where a new queen bee with some bees would search for a new nest location. This is not the first time New York has seen a large number of bees, as similar incidents occurred last year at Times Square. Police had to seal off areas for handling, even using insect vacuums to relocate around 25,000 bees to a safer location in the suburbs in 2021.
