The Yilan Winter Mountain Hot Air Balloon Festival kicked off with an estimated 3,000 attendees gathered to witness Taiwan's only Ma Zu-themed hot air balloon take flight. Some arrived as early as 2:30 a.m. to queue for tickets, showcasing high anticipation for the event. The festival runs for two consecutive weekends and features tethered balloon experiences, with up to 120 people per session, as well as a nightly hot air balloon light show. Organizers estimate a total of 25,000 to 30,000 participants this year. Last year's event saw over 20,000 attendees despite weather delays, prompting this year's festival to be postponed by a week.
