A deadly fire broke out in a residence on Yanshou Road in Tucheng District, New Taipei City this morning, claiming the lives of three among five individuals present. It is suspected that the wife (59 years old) of the homeowner surnamed Xiao, their son surnamed Li (26 years old), and their daughter's boyfriend surnamed Zheng (29 years old) were unable to escape in time. Zheng's parents rushed from central Taiwan to Tucheng to identify the bodies. The fire was believed to have started from a lithium battery of a grass-cutting machine used for gardening work, leading to an explosion that trapped the victims. The mother of Zheng was devastated upon arriving at the scene, where his charred body remained. Investigations are ongoing.
