In the early hours of June 13, 2024, a serious fire broke out in a residence on Yanshou Road in Tucheng District, New Taipei City, claiming the lives of the homeowner's wife, son, and daughter's boyfriend. Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by a lithium battery in a gardening hedge trimmer. The girlfriend of the 26-year-old deceased male arrived at the scene of the fire, embracing the surviving daughter of the family in tears. She revealed that at the moment of the fire, she was talking on the phone with her boyfriend, who mentioned it was noisy outside before abruptly stating that they had a fire and then losing contact. Firefighters arrived on the scene around 3 a.m. and managed to extinguish the fire by 4 a.m., but tragically discovered the bodies of the victims.
