The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Cinematheque will pay tribute to Taiwanese director Edward Yang by hosting a retrospective of his films from July 4 to 30, 2024. The event will showcase classics like 'Yi Yi' and 'A Brighter Summer Day' and feature discussions on Yang's influence on cinema. Recognizing Yang as a pioneer of the Taiwanese New Wave, the retrospective celebrates his contribution to revitalizing Taiwanese cinema. The retrospective, which includes new 4K restorations of Yang's works like 'A Confucian Confusion' and 'Mahjong,' aims to spotlight Taiwanese cinema's heritage and honor Yang's historical win at the Cannes Film Festival in 2000 as the first Taiwanese director to win the Best Director award.
