Starting from July, visitors entering the three intertidal zones of Shangfu, Duzai Ping, and Yucheng Wei on Pingtung's Xiao Liuqiu are required to pay a conservation fee of 60 yuan per person. Due to this new regulation, some tourists are choosing to visit free intertidal zones such as Gabbro Bay and Lobster Cave instead. The new fee aims to protect the rich ecological environment of these intertidal zones, which have seen a significant decrease in the number of visitors on the first day of implementation. Concerns have been raised about the potential impact on nearby turtle nesting sites if the visitor influx shifts to Gabbro Bay. The authorities plan to conduct biological surveys and adjust conservation measures accordingly.
