According to a report by Nikkei, the tourism industry has become a major economic pillar in Japan, ranking second in scale only to automobile exports when compared to other major export categories. Data shows that the estimated total spending by tourists visiting Japan in the first quarter of this year will reach 7.2 trillion yen annually. The growth rate of Japan's tourism industry economy surpasses that of its major export goods, with tourist spending increasing over 60% compared to the same period in 2019.
