In an effort to retain talent, Toyota in Japan is considering implementing a new work system where certain office and technical staff can have three-day weekends. The new system will allow non-production staff to have this flexibility without changing total work hours or salary levels. Toyota aims to increase employee motivation and retain skilled staff by allowing them to choose their weekly work days. The system will apply mainly to office roles like sales, procurement, and accounting, as well as technical roles in software, vehicle development, and quality control. Toyota plans to discuss job distribution and evaluation methods with both management and employees before implementing the new system as they aim to make the work structure more flexible and encourage autonomous work to increase work incentives.
