Toyota's Daihatsu caught in cheating on safety tests, plans to recall another 3 models

Reported 8 months ago

Daihatsu, a subsidiary of Toyota, announced defects in 3 models and is planning a recall. Last year, Daihatsu was found to have obtained national certification through falsified data, leading to the suspension of factory production. The Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism revealed that aside from falsified test data, 3 discontinued Daihatsu models did not meet safety standards and are set to be recalled. Despite no reported accidents, Daihatsu plans to recall these models under the guidance of the ministry. Additionally, the ministry identified 7 Daihatsu models such as 'Toyota Passo,' 'MOVE,' and 'Mira Tocot' as compliant with safety standards, but found defects in 'GranMax Truck,' 'TOYOTA TOWNACE TRUCK,' and 'MAZDA BONGO TRUCK' during safety testing for preventing fuel leakage in rear-end collisions.
