Traffic Accidents Cause 982 Deaths in April, This County Shows Worst Safety Performance

According to the Ministry of Transportation, there were 128,003 traffic accidents resulting in 17,105 injuries and 982 deaths in Taiwan from January to April 2024, with a decrease of about 5% in accidents and casualties compared to the previous year. Among counties and cities, Pingtung County had the highest increase in traffic accident deaths with 18 more fatalities, and the overall death rate per 100,000 people was highest in Pingtung County at 12.2. Hsinchu City had the worst pedestrian death rate, while Yunlin County had the highest number of drunk driving fatalities. Efforts are being made to improve road safety in these areas.
