Train Derails After Collision with Rockfall! Footage Shows 'Track Covered with Debris' Before Accident, Taiwan Railways Responds

Reported 8 months ago

A Taiwan Railways train, the 229th (EMU3000 express train), derailed on the westbound line in the Hualien section after hitting a rockfall, and recent revelations from employees show that footage had captured the track being submerged in debris 19 minutes before the incident. Taiwan Railways explained that the surveillance camera in that area is meant to monitor water levels in the Daqingshui River, not rockfalls, but has now mandated constant monitoring of the camera regardless of rainfall levels for safety. Measures are being taken to enhance safety in areas prone to debris flows, with cameras and water level monitors being installed on the entire North Link Line.
