TSMC's investment in building a plant in Kumamoto, Japan has been highly anticipated by the industry. Following the opening of Kumamoto Plant Phase 1 at the end of February, reports reveal that groundwork for Phase 2 has begun, with construction set to commence in the fourth quarter of this year. The Phase 1 plant is expected to start production in the fourth quarter of this year, with the Phase 2 plant aiming to be operational by 2027. The Japanese government will provide a maximum subsidy of 732 billion yen for this project, with Phase 2 focusing on producing 6/7-nanometer chips.
