Tulum Energy has resurrected a neglected hydrogen production technology discovered by Techint Group engineers in the early 2000s, leading to a successful $27 million seed funding round. This method, centered on methane pyrolysis, allows for the creation of hydrogen without CO2 emissions and at a comparable cost to existing production methods. Tulum plans to establish a pilot plant in Mexico, projecting significant output that could cater directly to adjacent steel operations, effectively turning an overlooked innovation into a promising business venture.
