On June 13, 2024, a Chinese community platform called Little Red Book featured an account named 'Soochow University Hall,' with photos attributed to Soochow University. The first post introduced itself using simplified characters as from the 'Taiwan region.' Despite the university clarifying it as unofficial and requesting the posts be deleted, questions were raised about 'undermining sovereignty for recruitment.' The Ministry of Education urged universities to uphold principles of equality and dignity in recruitment. Even after clarifications, Soochow University students expressed discontent over the situation. The Ministry also mentioned optimistic prospects for admitting around 9,000 mainland Chinese students next year, waiting for further responses.
