President Lai Ching-te's cross-strait remarks have been labeled as 'new two-state theory,' but Straits Exchange Foundation Chairman Chiu Chui-cheng reaffirmed on July 4th that the government's stance remains consistent in recognizing 'cross-strait relations as cross-strait relations.' The government will handle mainland affairs based on the Republic of China's constitutional system and urges the mainland to reciprocate. Chiu also emphasized the importance of upholding the 'one China' principle and dealing with cross-strait relations pragmatically on the basis of the 1992 Consensus.
