Unexpected Giant Hoodwinker Sunfish Found On Oregon Beach

Reported 11 months ago

A giant hoodwinker sunfish measuring about 2.2 meters long was discovered on an Oregon beach, surprising marine scientists as the species was believed to primarily inhabit the Southern Hemisphere. The Seaside Aquarium in Oregon confirmed the find and noted that due to the fish's thick skin, it may remain on the shore for some time. This hoodwinker sunfish, identified by New Zealand marine biologist Marianne Nyegaard, is among the largest of its kind studied. Previous discoveries in California and Alaska suggest that the habitat of this newly discovered species may extend beyond the Southern Hemisphere.
